We’re here to shed some light on our latest release, Hoppy Mood. Hoppy Mood is everything your favorite bubbly water wants to be, crafted with the finest hops while keeping you hydrated all day long.

“I’m a big hop fan, so it’s great having a beverage that has all those wonderful aromas and flavors but is refreshing and light on the palate,” says Jeremy Kosmicki, our Brewmaster.

What Exactly is Hoppy Mood?

First things first, Hoppy Mood is a hop water. Hop water does not contain any alcohol. It is simply made up of carbonated water, hops, and natural terpenes (we’ll get into terpenes later). Hop water is not beer, and it is not fermented.

We do, however, use similar brewing techniques to make it. First, we remove all the oxygen from our treated brewing water, then we adjust the pH with citric acid to add a touch of sourness to get the optimal flavor extraction from the hops. Next Mosaic, Amarillo, and Simcoe hops steep in the tank for several days.

Once all the desired fruity and piney aromas are extracted from the hops, we remove them and add a small, but potent, amount of natural terpenes.

Terpenes are aromatic compounds found naturally in many familiar plants and fruits – such as lavender, basil, blueberries, lemon, hops, and cannabis. In Hoppy Mood, we add natural terpenes that give grapefruit and pine flavors. These flavors, coupled with those from the hops make for quite an exciting drinking experience.

What Does Hoppy Mood Taste Like?

Hoppy Mood delivers a burst of clean hop aroma with a crisp bubbly finish and zero bitterness. The hops combined with the natural terpenes give aromas of grapefruit, pineapple, pine, and a bit of dank woodiness. Those that enjoy IPA’s will welcome the familiar flavors while those that despise IPA’s will be pleased by the bright fruit flavors and lack of bitterness.

Why Drink Hoppy Mood?

  • Hydration – Hoppy Mood is almost completely made up of water! That means you can drink it anytime you normally reach for sparkling water – at lunch, after a workout, or in the car.
  • Non-Alcoholic Alternative – With zero alcohol and calories, Hoppy Mood is a flavorful reminder of your favorite brew, but without the buzz.
  • A Break Between Beer – Our Brewmaster’s favorite way to drink Hoppy Mood. Between each beer, enjoy a can of Hoppy Mood to stay hydrated and levelheaded.
  • Potential Health Benefits – Hoppy Mood is made with hops and natural terpenes, both of which contain compounds that may offer health benefits. While more research is needed, studies suggest that hops and terpenes can offer calming effects, which could contribute to overall well-being.

Do you feel like a hop water expert yet? At the very least did this blog make you thirsty?

Let’s take a trip down memory lane.

It all started in 2009. Our Brewmaster, Jeremy Kosmicki, wanted a beer that was easy to drink, light in alcohol, yet just as flavorful as a full-bodied IPA. Try as he might, he just couldn’t find one to fit that specific criteria. So, he did as any good brewer would, and set out to brew the beer he wanted to drink.

20+ recipes later, he landed on a perfect, full-flavored, easy to drink low-ABV IPA. Although, it wasn’t quite an IPA – it was more of a hoppy pale ale. A ‘session IPA,’ if you will. Because you could drink a few and not be absolutely sloshed, he dubbed it ‘Endurance Ale.’ It was an immediate hit in our taproom.

We decided to package Endurance Ale in 2011 and, as the first bottles were getting ready to ship out, we ran into a bit of rights issue. The name ‘Endurance Ale’ had to go, so we reached out to our fans to help us to choose its new name and label artwork. Having served as the descriptor on the original Endurance Ale label, ‘All Day IPA‘ was born as was the memorable label artwork depicting a Woody wagon rolling down a two-track. All Day IPA was official and beer fans loved it.

Fifteen years later, All Day IPA is our largest, and arguably, most well-known brand. It’s the beer that introduces most people to our brewery and we wouldn’t have it any other way. The packaging artwork has changed over the years, but the high quality beer has always stayed the same.

Did that make anyone else thirsty? Or is it just us? Look for All Day IPA near you via our beer finder!

Founders Brewing Company will celebrate its new United States presence in support of the American challenger at the 37th America’s Cup, which comes to Barcelona, Spain, in 2024.

Spanish brewer Mahou Group and its recently created American division, Mahou USA – and one of its most well-known brands, Founders – have announced their sponsorship of New York Yacht Club American Magic, the U.S. challenger for the 37th America’s Cup. The sailing competition, taking place from August through October of 2024, will be held in Barcelona for the first time ever in its return to Spain after 14 years.

The America’s Cup, as the pinnacle of sailing, is the oldest international sporting trophy, representing one of the most challenging sporting endeavors. It holds a storied history, with the New York Yacht Club (NYYC) once maintaining a remarkable 132-year hold on the Cup. Set to take place from August to October 2024, this sailing spectacle will make history in Barcelona, marking its triumphant return to Spain after an absence of 14 years.

The sponsorship is Founders’ first foray into international sports competition, expanding on its existing agreements with the NHL’s Detroit Red Wings, the NBA G-League’s the Grand Rapids Gold, MiLB’s West Michigan Whitecaps and University of Michigan Athletics. Since acquiring Founders, Mahou Group has aimed to introduce the beloved Midwestern craft brewery to a global stage, and the America’s Cup provides an ideal opportunity to reach a worldwide audience.

“The 37th America’s Cup is a chance to celebrate the connection between our Spanish and American entities and link the Great Lakes with the Mediterranean Sea,” said Elton Andres Knight, Mahou USA’s CEO. “Working together to sponsor American Magic is a milestone in how Mahou Group and Mahou USA will keep building on the incredible foundation of these craft breweries, break new ground together, and introduce more people to our beloved and awarded beers.”

“We’re excited to partner with Mahou USA and the iconic Founders brand. This marks another significant step forward for American Magic and our mission to grow the sport of sailing,” said Mike Cazer, CEO NYYC American Magic. “We know the incredible support that Mahou Group brings through its presence in the U.S. and Spain, and we look forward to partnering on this incredible journey.”

Mahou Group’s partnership with American Magic will provide Founders with digital fan activations, exclusive content, customer-facing promotions, hospitality, pouring opportunities, and American Magic-themed parades and watch parties.

Mahou Group will sponsor the men’s, women’s and youth teams of American Magic, these last two categories will compete for the first time in the next edition of the America’s Cup, providing a platform to showcase the skills and talent of these groups.

The American team is already in Barcelona and will be prepared to participate in the preliminary regatta for this trophy, scheduled to take place in Vilanova i la Geltrú from this Thursday until September 17.

The Official Opening Ceremony of the 37th America’s Cup will be held in Barcelona on August 22, 2024. After that, the Final Preliminary Event and the Challenger Selection Series will follow, leading up to the America’s Cup Match starting on October 12, 2024. The Challenger Selections Series will determine which team will face the Defender Team New Zealand in the America’s Cup Match.

How many of you have thought that all IPA’s are bitter just because they are hoppy? We are thinking quite a lot of you thought that. But we are here to get the record straight. Hoppy doesn’t = bitter!

There are many more attributes that go into an IPA such as: citrus, grassy, tropical fruits, lemon, pineapple, and orange. Now that sounds like a delicious beer to us. But let’s get to the main point, why are some IPA’s hoppy and others are not?

The two main attributes that hops influence are taste and aroma. Some hops can cause bitterness and others that are more for aroma. When the hops are added to the kettle they make the beer bitter, while hops added after the kettle when the beer is fermenting add to the aroma.

All Day IPA: Refreshing citrus, floral, and tropical fruit notes, with moderate bitterness and a clean finish

All Day Haze: Fruit cocktail aromas of orange, pineapple, and peach with subtle pine and floral notes. Light bodied with low bitterness and a glowing haze

All Day Chill Day: Lemon with subtle pineapple, floral, pine and cereal notes. Light sweetness, moderate bitterness and a crisp finish

All Night IPA: Chocolatey sweet aromatics with pine and orange hop notes. Moderate bitterness with a soft, light mouthfeel

See that wasn’t too bad! Now you can enjoy an IPA and let others know that they aren’t as hoppy as they may seem.

Cheers!
